Get to know me
Hi, I'm Alexandra! I love exploring the outdoors and traveling with my family, playing word games and board games, collaging, and crafting with my daughter. I graduated from Guilford College with a degree in Psychology and have a true love for learning how the human brain works. I am especially inspired by children's ever-growing minds.
Recently, I pulled my daughter from in-person school and have been head first with fully embracing schooling at home. Prior to that, I have been tutoring for over 15 years. I pride myself in my creativity and create unique tricks and and strategies for students to frequently use and rely on.
My goal is to ensure that all students gain confidence and life long skills. I am so excited to work with your child and to help them discover their inner genius.
My Method
I have created a simple formula I rely on when working with any students. First, I learn how the student learns, what they enjoy or are passionate about, and what they already have confidence in. Next, I discover the areas they'd like to improve. Then, I put energy into forming the best plan of action to help the student overcome any challenges they may be having. I often find that the challenges are within so a big part of my job is to help them discover their confidence. After that, we work on long term learning. This means not just learning how to solve the current problem, answer the one question, or write the one essay, but gaining knowledge to be able to use those same skills time and time again.
Why work with me?
My passion starts with children, not with subject matter. The reason this is unique and is in the best interest of all students is because this method allows me to ensure each student is working on life-long skills and unchanging confidence in their own abilities. I do not just ramble on about grammar rules or common practices but instead I work closely with each child to to build on what they know.
